Ange: Cahill set for ‘massive impact’ in Hyundai A-League

Tim Cahill’s Caltex Socceroos coach is in no doubt that the striker’s move to Hyundai A-League club Melbourne City will be a success for the club and competition.

Cahill was announced on Thursday as a City player and is set to meet his new teammates at the club’s impressive base in Bundoora next week ahead of the new Hyundai A-League season in October.

And for Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou – who has two important World Cup qualifiers in early September against Iraq then UAE – he’s delighted with the move and was kept in the loop as the deal developed.

“It gives him another challenge in his career and knowing what he is like he won’t want to let people down here in Australia,” Postecoglou told Melbourne’s Herald Sun.

“I see no reason why he can’t have a massive impact, having worked with him now I know what motivates him, and it is a great challenge for himself and I’m sure he’ll make the most of it.

“He’s one of our greatest-ever players still in the national team is still in great form and still very ambitious. I think it’s a great move.”

And Postecoglou was aware of how the deal was going after Cahill finished up in China last month.

“Tim’s kept me abreast of everything. You don’t know until a deal is done he still had options elsewhere as well.

“It’s as much a family decision. He conquered Europe he did well in America and China and it’s a great way to finish his career if he come back home and does as well.”
