He is a Juventus legend so it was only fitting this week that it was announced that Alessandro Del Piero would lead the A-League All-Stars and play against the Bianconeri for the first time in August this year.

Here’s a snap-shot of Del Piero’s glittering 19-year career with the ‘old lady’ of Italian football.

Playing record:
Del Piero played 705 matches for the club between 1993 and 2012, scoring 290 goals. He was also club captain for a remarkable 11 seasons and is the most capped player in the club’s history.

Trophies won:
Del Piero’s time at Juventus was hugely successful, winning 16 major honours along the way. It included seven Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, four Italian Super Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and of course the UEFA Champions League triumph in 1996, where they beat Dutch giants Ajax in a penalty shootout.

Star team-mates:
Being at one of the biggest club’s in the world, Del Piero was fortunate enough to play with some of the best players in world football. The likes of Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Baggio, Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Pavel Nedved, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluca Vialli and Didier Deschamps were all part of different Juve squads over the years the enjoyed lots of success both domestically and in Europe.

Coaches played under:
Del Piero’s Juve career saw him play under some of the best managers in Italian and world football, starting off under Marcello Lippi and also working with the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Fabio Capello, Didier Deschamps, Claudio Ranieri, Ciro Ferrara and Antonio Conte in his final season.

Relationship with fans:
You only need to see the scenes from Il Pinturicchio’s final home match for the club to see exactly what he meant to Juve supporters. He scored in that final Serie A appearance against Atalanta and was given a huge ovation as he left the Stadio delle Alpi for the final time. Much of the fan adoration for Del Piero comes from his loyalty in sticking with the club during the Calciopoli scandal in 2006 when they were demoted to Serie B. Despite offers from numerous big clubs in Italy and Europe, ADP remained as captain of the club and guided them back to the top flight a year later. He was – and still is – much loved by the Juve faithful and the feeling is certainly mutual.

“Above all what remains is the fans, you who are Juventus,” Del Piero penned in a letter after his final match.

“That jersey that I loved and will always love, that I desired and respected.

“From tomorrow I will no longer be a Juventus player, but I will always be one of you.”

Del Piero on his feelings about playing Juventus for the first time in the All-Stars game:

“My emotions? I really don’t know.

“It is the first time and like every first time, you don’t know what will happen.

“I am really curious. For sure it will be a great moment for me and for the fans to have Juventus here.

“The atmosphere, the crowd will be fantastic. It’s a celebration game, it’s a friendly game, that’s why everything will be great.”

What they said about him:

*”In my view he’s the best person I’ve met in this sport.” – Fabio Cannavaro

*”He is different from (Zinedine) Zidane, he likes to play, he feels it in his soul; between he and the French (Zidane), I pick him.” – Diego Maradona

*”I believe in champions and Alex is a champion. Sometimes I feel embarrassed at putting him on the bench.” – Fabio Capello

*”He is the greatest player I have ever played against, he twisted me incredibly.” – Gary Neville
