Aloisi hails ‘winner’ Franjic’s value to Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar boss John Aloisi says Ivan Franjic’s stunner in the 2-0 win at Western Sydney showed why bringing him back to the club was a no-brainer.

Franjic picked out the top corner less than a minute after coming on for his second appearance of the season, having only re-joined his original Hyundai A-League club last month.

“First of all he’s a good player, he’s a winner and he’s very versatile,” Aloisi said at his post-match press conference.

“He hasn’t played a lot of football of late but you can see the qualities he’s got.

“He’s pretty smart tactically, so he understands how to play in different roles, and he’s also got that quality that he can either cross the ball, give a final ball or even score goals.

“When the opportunity was there to bring him back we didn’t hesitate.”

Massimo Maccarone also hit the scoresheet with a thumping left-footed finish in the first half.

The Italian’s strike ended a four-match scoreless run and Aloisi expects plenty more to come.

“We still think we can deliver more for him. He’s got four goals and he can still do a lot better,” the Roar manager said.

“If you give him the ball in the box something is going to happen.”
