Aloisi hails Roar’s gritty win over Victory

Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi is encouraged by the result-driven dedication his side displayed in Saturday night’s hard-earned 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

After going ahead through Jamie Maclaren early in the second half, Brisbane were forced to battle for their second win in seven matches by an increasingly-dangerous Victory.

“Brisbane Roar of this season, last season and of the past will always play good football,” Aloisi told Fox Sports.

Roar players celebrate Jamie Maclaren's goal in their win over Melbourne Victory.

“But sometimes the pitch might not allow it, or the conditions, or you’re fatigued.

“You have to find a way to get the result and that’s what the boys did. They defended really well and then when we countered we countered well.

“My message to the boys tonight was ‘yeah we can play good football but we have to find a way to win’.”

Teenager Joe Caletti continued his stellar debut season at Suncorp Stadium with another assured display in the absence of injured captain Matt McKay.

“He’s been brilliant every game that he’s played,” Aloisi said of the young midfielder.

“The football we play is suited for Joey Caletti because he starts the play, he gets on the ball and he’s an intelligent footballer. Not only with the ball but also defensively.

“He’s only 18 and he’s just started so there’s a lot more in Joey Caletti and also some of our other young players.”
