Aloisi: best is yet to come from Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar boss John Aloisi has promised his side will only get better after registering their first win in Friday night’s 3-1 victory over Melbourne City.

Avraam Papadopoulos scored an unlikely brace either side of Eric Bautheac’s first goal for the club to end a six-match winless start to the season.

And with the likes of Bautheac, Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Brett Holman nearing full fitness, Aloisi believes the rocky beginning is now in the past.

“We’re going to get stronger and stronger as the season goes on,” the Roar coach said after the match.

“It’s not easy when you replace virtually four players up front with a different four. It takes time to gel.

“I thought I was going to have three months of pre-season to gel with those players.

“They’re only going to get better and better the more they play with each other.”

Aloisi also hailed the value of former Olympiacos captain Papadopoulos, who is a surprise joint-leader of the team’s scoring alongside Massimo Maccarone.

“He’s someone that’s played at the highest level. That’s the importance of a player like Avraam,” he said.

“I thought Connor O’Toole had a very good game tonight and that’s thanks to Avraam helping him, supporting him, pulling him aside to explain things.”
