Aloisi backs hat-trick hero for Socceroo call-up

Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi insists it’s only a matter of time until Jamie Maclaren wins a Socceroos call-up if his star striker maintains his prolific goalscoring form.

Maclaren improved his tally to 17 for the season with an eye-catching hattrick in Roar’s stunning 5-0 win over Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

“I spoke to Jamie during the week and said to him the way you’re getting to get into the national team is to keep scoring goals. It’s simple,” Aloisi said.

“Ange is watching, Ange is happy with the way you’re going. He has to end up selecting you if you keep on scoring goals.

Jamie Maclaren celebrates with Corey Brown after scoring in the opening half.

“He didn’t show he was too upset tonight by not getting selected. He wants to prove he deserves to be in the national team.”

Having returned to top form with back-to-back wins over Western Sydney Wanderers and now Victory, Roar face another tough assignment away to title rivals Melbourne City on Friday night.

Aloisi confirmed new signing Tommy Oar will be available for selection – albeit likely from the bench – in acknowledging the importance of the top-four clash.

“I do look at the table, I know how close it is and I know Melbourne City are only three points behind us,” he said.

“Next week is going to be a big game for both clubs.

“Not only Melbourne City but you’ve got Adelaide that are still there and Wanderers that will play tomorrow. It’s important that we go to Melbourne and try to get the result that we want.”
