Allianz sold-out as Sydney Derby fever sweeps Australia

The Sydney Derby is no longer just an iconic day for sports fans in Sydney and NSW – it’s taking hold across the nation, according to the latest information on ticket sales.

Over 40,000 fans are expected to filter through the turnstiles at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night after the Sky Blues announced their Round 15 blockbuster against cross-town rivals the Wanderers is officially sold-out.

Sydney FC’s ticket sales information reveals that around 1800 fans from outside of NSW have bought tickets to the clash, with fans from Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania and ACT set to fly in for the game.

These fans are reputedly not even members of the club or the SCG Trust, with the state of Victoria making up the bulk of this number.

It’s just another sign of the growing power of the derby – and the Hyundai A-League – as a sports brand.
