Experienced defender extends Melbourne Victory stay

Laura Alleway has signed a one-year contract extension with Melbourne Victory, the club confirmed today.

The defender’s new deal will keep her in Melbourne until the end of the Westfield W-League 2019/20 season.

Alleway was part of Victory’s inaugural Westfield W-League team and has been a significant presence for Jeff Hopkins’ side following her return in 2017.

The Victory boss hailed Alleway as one of the most accomplished defenders in Australia.

“Laura is one of Australia’s most experienced defenders and the way she organises the backline is huge for us,” Hopkins told Melbourne’s official website.

“The fact she’s played more than 50 games for the Matildas says a lot about her ability.

“It’s great to know that Laura will continue to lead our defence for the next couple of years.”
