Adelaide United defender Iain Fyfe is some chance of playing the Central Coast at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday after his sore left knee and ankle were cleared of any structural damage.
The Reds feared Fyfe was seriously injured after he was felled by a crude Shane Smeltz tackle in the 41st minute of their game against the Gold Coast last Saturday.
But MRI scans have revealed that apart from bruising and swelling his knee and ankle are fine.
Adelaide United’s medical staff will closely monitor and review Fyfe’s progress in the coming days before deciding whether he will be cleared to tackle the Mariners.
Fyfe has started in all but one of the Reds’ 20 matches so far this season and has been a solid performer in combination with fellow defender Mark Rudan.
Reds midfielder Paul Reid made a successful return to the pitch after getting through an hour with the Reds Youth team while Kristian Sarkies and Alemao are also over their injury concerns.
