Ange Postecoglou says his side will continue to be pro-active and attack the Mariners with ferocity this weekend.
Ange Postecoglou has promised Brisbane Roar fans an exciting game against the Mariners at Suncorp Stadium, insisting his team will go for the jugular and play an attacking style of football.
That attacking style with its high-line was found to be vulnerable mid-season as the Roar went through a poor patch of form that ultimately cost them the Premier-s Plate, but the Roar manager was unwavering in his belief his side would rather win games than try and hold the other team out.
“We-re all about trying to be pretty pro-active in our approach and play attacking football and try and score goals,” he said.
“We-ll always go into a game of football trying to win it rather than not lose it.
“That-s worked really well for us and to be honest, I think in finals series it-s probably the way to go providing you can back yourself in that philosophy and we certainly can.”
While the Roar have built their reputation on attack, Graham Arnold-s men have built theirs on defence and keeping their structures intact.
It provides for an interesting clash of styles in what is quickly becoming one of the fiercest rivalries in the A-League, one which really kicked into gear during last season-s grand final.
The fact that the Mariners snatched the Premier-s Plate from the Roar is just more incentive for the reigning champions to knock the Mariners off over the two-leg semi-final, according to Postecoglou.
“We set ourselves a goal to finish first and we didn-t get there,” he said.
“Hopefully that gives us more incentive to make sure we do well in the finals series.”
