Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Alex Paulsen has earned the November nomination for Isuzu UTE A-League Young Footballer of the Year.

The nomination comes after a superb November for the 21-year-old Phoenix gloveman, who made 15 saves across two wins and a draw throughout the month.

Paulsen earned the nomination via a voting panel made up of Boris Seroshtan, Warren Grieve, Teo Pellizzeri, Simon Hill, Gabor Ganczer and Tony Vidmar.

Paulsen’s standout November performance came in a 1-0 win over Melbourne City, in which he made a late penalty save to deny Jamie Maclaren from the spot and retain a clean sheet in a slender win over the reigning premiers.

It’s been a stellar start to the season for Paulsen, who has stepped up in the absence of former Phoenix No.1 Oliver Sail who joined Perth Glory in the off-season.

Paulsen won the Isuzu UTE A-League October/November Player of the Month award after an unbeaten start to the campaign for the Phoenix.

A nomination for Young Footballer of the Year is just reward for one of the standout performers of the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League season to date.

Paulsen joins Nestory Irankunda as the second nominee for the award this season after the Adelaide United teenager collected the October nomination.
