Rising Jets star earns Young Football of the Year nomination… at 16!

Newcastle Jets teenager Emma Dundas has earned the sixth Young Football of the Year nomination for the 2023-24 Liberty A-League season.

Dundas, 16, earned the March nomination for Young Footballer of the Year after a vote by a panel of experts comprising Rae Dower, Leah Blayney, Cheryl Downes, Teo Pellizzeri, Rhali Dobson and Kate Gill.

The Jets midfielder, who scored the first goal of her career in Newcastle’s 8-0 trouncing of Adelaide United at the end of March, will contend with fellow monthly nominees Maddie Caspers (January), Alana Murphy (December), Daniela Galic (November) and Georgia Cassidy (October).

The 16-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Jets this season. Her first league goal came in the final game of the regular season, followed by a start in Saturday night’s Elimination Final win over Western United.

Dundas played 69 minutes of Newcastle’s 4-2 extra-time win over Western – the club’s first Elimination Finals win in its 16-year history.

Dundas and the Jets are next in action in the Finals Series against Melbourne City in a two-legged Semi-Final. Newcastle will host the first leg at Maitland Regional Sportsground on April 21.
