Macey Fraser has departed the Wellington Phoenix after mutually agreeing to terminate the remainder of her contract with the club.
The 24-year-old midfielder returned to Wellington last season but didn’t feature until the latter stages of the campaign.
Fraser stepped away from football during the opening months of the 2025/26 Ninja A-League season to address her mental health before working her way back into the Phoenix squad, where she ultimately featured seven times.

Her return came during a landmark campaign for Wellington, with the Phoenix reaching the Ninja A-League Finals Series for the first time before going on to feature in the club’s inaugural Grand Final.
Fraser said she was grateful to have been part of such a significant season in the club’s history.
“It was amazing to return to the Phoenix and help the team not only reach the finals for the first time, but play in the club’s first grand final.” Fraser said.
“Thank you to my teammates, the staff and the fans for all of their support and making the season so unforgettable.
“I wish the Phoenix all the best for the upcoming season.”

Fraser began her professional career with the Phoenix in 2023/24, making an immediate impact with three goals and five assists.
Her performances earned her a move to the United States, where she joined NWSL side Utah Royals in a record transfer for the club.
She returned to Wellington last year on a three-year contract, but will now leave with two seasons remaining on her deal as she and the Phoenix explore their respective next steps.
Director of football Shaun Gill thanked Fraser for her contribution to the club.
“We wish Macey all the very best for the next chapter in her life,” Gill said.
“Last season was very challenging for her but she put a lot of hard work in to get back on the pitch and was an integral member of our women’s squad which reached the club’s first grand final.
“Macey had several memorable moments in Phoenix colours and we will take a keen interest in what the future holds for her.”
The Phoenix still have 17 players contracted for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League season, with further squad announcements expected before pre-season training begins in September.
