Serial winner Matricciani signs new two-year deal with City

Melbourne City have tied down Head Coach Michael Matricciani to a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2027-28 Ninja A-League season.

Matricciani has been rewarded for his excellent tenure at the club which has so far seen him win back-to-back Premiership crowns as well as the 2025-26 Ninja A-League Championship.

Furthermore, Matricciani has also overseen two AFC Women’s Champions League campaigns, with City defeated in the final of the competition in the 2024-25 season.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the trust and support the Club has shown in me,” Matricciani said, after signing his new deal.

“From the moment I arrived, I’ve felt aligned with the Club’s ambition, values and football philosophy, and it’s been a privilege to work with such a talented group of players and staff.

He continued: “We’ve achieved some special things together over the last two seasons, but I genuinely believe there is still so much more this group can accomplish.

“I’m excited for what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to build on the foundations
we’ve created together.”

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said extending Matricciani’s
contract was an important step for the Club.

“Michael has had an outstanding impact since arriving at Melbourne City and has exceeded
even our highest expectations,” Petrillo said.

“The success we’ve achieved over the past two seasons reflects the work Michael and his staff have put in every day, but just as importantly, they’ve created a culture where players are challenged, supported and empowered to be their best.

“While we’re incredibly proud of everything Michael has achieved, we firmly believe the best is still to come.

“Securing his future gives us continuity as we continue to build on the success of our Women’s program and pursue further success in the years ahead.

He added: “He’s one of the most exciting coaches in the game, and we’re delighted he’ll continue leading our Women’s program into the future.”

News of Matricciani’s renewal comes as a big boost for City fans following the confirmation of star striker Holly McNamara’s departure.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that McNamara has called timed on her five-year stint at City in a bid to pursue an overseas opportunity.
