17-year-old Adelaide United goalkeeper Ilona Melegh is one of five Ninja A-League players to have been called up to the Matildas squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Mexico.
Melegh was one of the breakout stars of the 2025-25 Ninja A-League season, starting 13 matches for the club after winning her place in the first team and subsequently helping Adelaide reach the Elimination Finals.

Joining Melegh in the 24-player squad are Melbourne City’s Championship winning duo Holly McNamara and Leticia McKenna following their Grand Final victory over Wellington Phoenix last weekend.
Central Coast Mariners midfield dynamo Isabel Gomez will be hoping to add to her two caps having also been called up for the two-game series whilst Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln has also earned selection.
“This window provides another important step for us as we continue building consistency and clarity in the way we want to play,” said Matildas Head Coach, Joe Montemurro.
“We’ve retained a strong core group, while also creating opportunities for players who have performed well at club level and are ready for experience in the international environment.
“Mexico will present a different challenge for us, and that’s exactly what we need at this stage. Exposing the group to varied opposition and conditions is critical as we continue to grow, and we’re looking forward to maximising our time together both on and off the pitch.”
The first of the Matildas’ two matches against Mexico will take place at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Saturday June 6 before they then head to Western Sydney’s CommBank Stadium on Tuesday 9 June.
