Reigning Isuzu UTE A-League Champions Melbourne City have pulled off a real transfer coup, signing Socceroos midfielder Ryan Teague on loan from Belgian side K.V. Mechelen for the remainder of the season.
Previously playing for City’s cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory, Teague joined K.V. Mechelen in the off-season, signing a three year deal in Belgium.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled for form and fitness since heading to Europe and returns to Australia in order to get more first team football.
Teague established himself as something of a regular under Socceroos head coach Tony Popovic in 2025, playing four times for his country, and he’ll now be looking to catch the eye once again ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
“I’m really excited to be joining Melbourne City and can’t wait to get started,” said Teague after inking his new deal.
“It’s a club that sets high standards and plays a great style of football, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team at such an important part of the season.
“There’s a lot to play for, and I’m ready to help the group in any way I can.”
Teague’s arrival gives City head coach Aurelio Vidmar some much-needed depth in midfield, with the reigning Champions again enduring an injury-hit campaign.
Furthermore, the signing of the Australian international will no doubt help City in their bid to not only retain their Championship crown but also qualify for the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League Elite.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Ryan to Melbourne City,” said Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo.
“He’s a talented midfielder who has shown his quality at both club and international level, and we believe he’ll be a great addition to the squad.
“With an important run of fixtures coming up both domestically and in Asia, his arrival comes
at the perfect time, giving us options and greater flexibility in the middle of the park.”
City fans could well catch a glimpse of Teague in action as early as this Friday night, with the midfielder a chance to feature against Auckland FC pending international clearance.
