MATCHDAY AGENDA

Newcastle Jets 3-1 Sydney FC

Newcastle Jets climbed off the foot of the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder on Sunday after defeating Sydney FC 3-1 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The home side took the lead in the 19th minute of the contest as former Sydney FC youngster Clayton Taylor skipped inside Sky Blues defender Jack Rodwell before beating Andrew Redmayne at his near post.

Newcastle then made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later as Reno Piscopo exchanged passes with Daniel Stynes before firing home the Jets’ second.

Sydney forward Robert Mak was then sent off for violent conduct after catching Phillip Cancar in the face before Sky Blues striker Fabio Gomes reduced the deficit to just one before the break.

However a second half strike from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos sealed all three points for the Jets as they ended a nine-game winless run.

5:00pm AEDT: Perth Glory v Adelaide United – HBF Park (Isuzu UTE A-League)
All eyes will be on Nestory Irankunda after his history-making exploits in Round 22.

The Adelaide United teenager became the youngest player in Isuzu UTE A-League history to score a hat-trick last week and he arrives in Perth, along with his teammates, full of confidence.

Adelaide, who remain an outside chance of qualifying for the finals, have won back-to-back matches while Perth are six games without victory.

This showdown should guarantee goals given the fact 14 goals have been scored in the previous two matches following 3-3 and 4-4 draws.
