Semi-Final Ins & Outs: Lolley replacement revealed as Victory name Phoenix cult hero

'That's toxic' | Phoenix keeper's hilarious reaction to Izzo tossing rival's penalty notes

The teams are in ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League Semi-Final first legs, as Sydney FC host Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix travel to take on Melbourne Victory.

Sydney FC were dealt a major blow in the build-up to the home leg of their Semi-Final clash with the Mariners, with Joe Lolley ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.

Sky Blues head coach Ufuk Talay has promoted three players to his extended squad for Friday night’s game at Allianz Stadium, with 18-year-old attacker Mitchell Glasson adding attacking reinforcement alongside midfielders Wataru Kamijo and Matthew Scarcella.

Max Burgess slotted in on the right side of Sydney’s attack after Lolley succumbed to injury in last week’s Elimination Final win over Macarthur FC, and looms a likely replacement for Lolley in the starting lineup. Jaiden Kucharski is another candidate to earn a starting role in Sydney’s attack in Lolley’s absence.

Sydney have named captain Luke Brattan, who trained with the squad after collecting a hefty knock to the ankle against Macarthur.

Central Coast head coach Mark Jackson, meanwhile, has promoted teenage striker Bailey Brandtman to his squad ahead of the Mariners’ trip to Allianz Stadium on Friday night.

Wellington Phoenix will face Victory on Sunday afternoon with an unchanged squad from their last Isuzu UTE A-League hit-out, while Melbourne Victory make one enforced alteration due to Zinédine Machach’s two-game suspension.

Victory boss Tony Popovic has added three players to his extended squad, with Connor Chapman and Fabian Monge joined by former Wellington cult figure Roly Bonevacia in pushing for a place in the final 18-player matchday squad.
