Champions lock in experienced midfielder Gallegos for another year

Auckland FC have locked in another key member of its title-winning squad, with experienced midfielder Felipe Gallegos signing a contract extension with the club.

The 34-year-old has been with Auckland since becoming one of the club’s inaugural signings ahead of their debut campaign in 2024-25 and has made 55 appearances across two seasons.

Gallegos has played a central role in Auckland’s midfield during the club’s two trophy-winning campaigns after arriving from Greek top-flight side OFI Crete.

“I’ve loved my time so far in Auckland,” said Gallegos, after his extension was confirmed on Monday morning.

“I’m happy here, my family is happy here, and I can’t wait to create more memories and get back out on the pitch.”

Since starting Auckland’s inaugural match against Brisbane Roar, the Chilean has registered five goal involvements.

Among them was his volley against Adelaide United in April, which claimed the club’s Goal of the Season award.

Auckland FC Director of Football Terry McFlynn welcomed the midfielder’s decision to extend his stay at the club.

“Felipe has been instrumental for us; he’s played a big role in the club’s title-winning success and will continue to be a huge influence around the club.”

“We are excited to see him back on the pitch next season.”

Gallegos missed Auckland’s finals campaign due to a hamstring injury but will be fit and available for the start of the upcoming season.
