After three seasons and 34 goals, Fornaroli & the Glory part ways by mutual consent

Bruno Fornaroli and Perth Glory are no more after the Isuzu UTE A-League club confirmed the star striker’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Glory’s leading goalscorer in each of the past three A-League Men seasons, former captain Fornaroli departs Perth, effectively immediately.

There had been doubts over Fornaroli’s future in Perth after he was omitted from Ruben Zadkovich’s squad for their win over Central Coast Mariners last week.

Glory travelled to Central Coast Stadium without Fornaroli, claiming the Uruguayan was “out due to injury” when naming the squad for Sunday’s clash with the Mariners. Fornaroli took to Instagram to respond to the club with a comment which was deleted soon after, claiming he was “100% fit and ready” to travel and play with the team.

Now, one-time Socceroo Fornaroli and the Glory have parted ways.

“I have enjoyed my time here at Perth Glory and in particular, the relationship that I have developed with the members and fans who will always retain a special place in my heart,” Fornaroli said in a statement on Friday.

“I would like to thank the club for resolving this situation with me quickly and effectively and wish the players and staff all the very best for the future.”

Fornaroli joined Perth from Melbourne City ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The 35-year-old scored 13 goals in back-to-back A-League Men campaigns before finding the back of the net seven times in 2021-22.

Fornaroli made two appearances this term before dropping out of the squad in Round 3.

Glory CEO Anthony Radich added: “Bruno has been a great servant to Perth Glory and we sincerely thank him for his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the remainder of his career.

“It is a difficult decision for both parties, but such decisions have to be made as we continue to rebuild the club.

“Moving forward, Bruno’s departure means we have an opportunity to strengthen the squad when the transfer window reopens in January and we fully intend to do so.”

The Glory are away to Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Sunday.
