Adelaide United take first steps into new era

FFA and Adelaide United announce they’re entering into a transitional partnership arrangement.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) and a local consortium led by Alan Young today announced they had entered into a transitional partnership arrangement that will lead to the consortium taking control of Adelaide United Football Club.

The first step in the new ownership arrangement is the establishment of an advisory board for the club which will be comprised of both consortium members and FFA representatives.

Alan Young will chair the board.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley welcomed Alan Young and his co-members to the Hyundai A-League club,

“This is a very positive step forward for the club and for the Hyundai A-League,” said Buckley.

“Local ownership and investment in Adelaide United is the foundation of building a successful club for the people of Adelaide.

“What the arrangement with the Alan Young business consortium offers is a step towards a local ownership model that is built on a passion and understanding of the football culture in South Australia.”

Alan Young said the consortium had received a tremendous amount of support from football fans and from throughout the South Australian Community over its interest in the club.

“We need the continuing support of the local South Australian community at all levels to achieve our goals and ensure success,” said Young

“All of us who are passionate about our club, Adelaide United, and football in Australia are excited about this new phase in the growth of Adelaide United to be achieved through a transition to local ownership.

“We know that fans, sponsors, players, coaching and management staff alike will benefit by a close business focused direction and leadership at home here in South Australia.

“We will see that Adelaide United gets enough ‘runway- to take off.

“This will be a new transparent business model that will get the best performance out of the club both on and off the field, and help develop football in South Australia from juniors up.”

Following a string of recent signings, including Sergio Van Dijk and Nigel Boogaard, the Club has achieved impressive results in the AFC Champions League and currently leads Group H on 9 points.
