Adelaide United have confirmed that striker Džengis Čavuševic has suffered a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and will miss the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season.
Čavušević, who scored his first goal for the Reds in a 5-2 win against Newcastle Jets in Round 24, suffered the injury innocuously during a training session ahead of the Club’s match with Wellington Phoenix.
Speaking on Čavušević’s injury, the Club’s doctor, Dr James Ilic, said: “Džengis has had scans on his knee to determine the nature of this injury and we can confirm he has ruptured the ACL in his left knee.
“Džengis will now discuss the best course of action with a surgeon to begin the recovery process as soon as possible.”
The Slovenian is expected to miss 9-12 months with the injury.
Čavušević joined Adelaide in the January transfer window and made four appearances for the Reds, scoring one goal.
Not good news for @Cavusevic. Wishing you a speedy recovery Džengis! #AUFC #ForeverUnited
