Former Adelaide captain completes Reds return: ‘Feels like coming home’

Isuzu UTE A-League Championship-winner Stefan Mauk has re-joined hometown club Adelaide United for a third stint on a long-term deal.

The former Reds captain returns to Adelaide after signing a contract until the end of the 2026-27 season following his departure from J2 League side Fagiano Okayama in Japan.

Mauk was part of the Adelaide team that won the 2015-16 A-League Men Premiership and Championship, while he became the club’s youngest captain as a 25-year-old in 2020-21.

Pending an international transfer clearance, Mauk has been added to the extended squad for Saturday’s clash with Central Coast Mariners at the expense of Ethan Alagich.

“Adelaide has always held a special place in my heart, and I am genuinely excited to be back,” said the 28-year-old Adelaide native, who left Coopers Stadium for Japan in 2022.

“Returning to Adelaide United feels like coming home — the camaraderie among the players is truly special.”

“The support from the fans has been incredible, and I am eager to contribute to the success of the club.”

Across two previous stints with Adelaide, Mauk scored 13 goals in 63 appearances.

During his two seasons at Fagiano Okayama, the midfielder – who has also played for Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar in the A-Leagues – scored 10 goals in 60 matches.

“It’s great to have Stefan back at the club,” said Adelaide head coach Carl Veart. He’s an experienced and talented player who will bring a lot of leadership and quality to our side.

“He is a great addition both from an on-field and off-field perspective, and as well as bolstering our midfield options, he will give us a new avenue in attack.”
