Adelaide United recruit Halloran reveals Hyundai A-League mission

Exciting new Adelaide United signing Ben Halloran has set his sights on silverware as he returns to the Hyundai A-League on a personal crusade.

The six-time Caltex Socceroo inked a two-year contract with the Reds earlier this week having spent the past five seasons in Germany and Japan.

An impressive start to life in Europe earned Halloran a ticket to the 2014 FIFA World Cupâ„¢ and the speedy winger is determined to replicate that kind of high at club level.

Though yet to meet with new boss Marco Kurz, Halloran is clear on what he wants to achieve with last season’s Finals Series participants.

“[In] my career to date I’m yet to win any silverware so I definitely have ambitions of coming here to win something and to win the FFA Cup would be great,” the 26-year-old told adelaideunited.com.au.

“Obviously want to be as successful as I can in the league and that would mean winning the Championship.

“I don’t want to speak too early, I’ve only been here a few days, but that’s obviously, I presume, the goal of the club – to be as successful as possible.”

Halloran revealed Adelaide featured prominently on a shortlist potential destinations he gave to his agent upon leaving J.League outfit V-Varen Nagasaki.

The Cairns product sought advice on the state of the Hyundai A-League from friends and team-mates before settling on a return to Australia, where he is excited to recapture the “very unique” sense of team camaraderie.

“I’ve got a fair few mates that I’m still close with in the league and from what I can gather the league has definitely grown and progressed in the last few years,” he said.

“You see lots of high calibre players with plenty of pedigree coming out and playing in the league.

“It’s very competitive. You see different teams being successful each year which is always good for the league.

“And when I speak to different players they assure me the league has definitely grown.”

Halloran could get his first chance to help the Reds on their way to a trophy when last year’s FFA Cup runners-up resume their bid to go one better with a Round of 16 trip to Brisbane-based Lions FC on Wednesday, August 29.
