Ronny Vargas has scored his first Hyundai A-League goal as Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United drew 1-1 in the opening game of Round 2 at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.
In a content that sprung to life in the second half, Vargas put the Jets in front before Craig Goodwin ensured the Reds kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a bullet header.
The result means both sides are still searching for the first win of the campaign, with the Reds now turning their focus to Tuesday night’s FFA Cup Final against Sydney FC.

It was a first-half of few goal-scoring chances, with the home side the closest to breaking the deadlock just before the break.
First Goodwin rattled the crossbar with a wicked, dipping free-kick, before the winger was denied soon after by an excellent save by Glen Moss.
And it gave the Jets a boost as Vargas struck seven minutes after the resumption, getting on the end of Jason Hoffman’s cross to slam it home from close range.
But the Reds were level just 11 minutes later.
Michael Marrone got free down the right and swung in a delightful cross , with Goodwin powering a header past Moss.
Both sides pushed for a winner but it was the Jets that went the closest to finding it, with Reds keeper Paul Izzo somehow denying Hoffman with a brilliant reflex save.
It was a heated end with a scuffle breaking out in stoppage-time after a collision between Moss and George Blackwood but both sides had to settle for a point.
