Adelaide kick-start season with 4-year first against Canberra

Adelaide United have ended their winless start to the Ninja A-League season with a 2-1 victory over Canberra United.

Matilda McNamara’s 78th-minute header proved the difference at ServiceFM Stadium, where Kiara De Domizio’s opener was cancelled out by Adelaide star Emily Condon.

The result handed Adelaide their first win at home to Canberra since December 2021.

Setup by A-Leagues and CommBank Matildas legend Michelle Heyman, De Domizio curled a sublime strike into the back of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Adelaide entered the game having not scored in their opening two games of the season – the first time since 2014-15. However, the Reds ended that drought in the 24th minute thanks to Condon.

While Emma Robers hit the woodwork approaching the half-hour mark, Adelaide dominated the rest of the first half and if it was not for Sally James, the Reds would’ve taken a lead into the interval.

After Dylan Holmes succumbed to a knee injury in the second half, Adelaide went on to find the winner through McNamara.
