Adelaide skipper urges attack from goal shy Reds

Adelaide United captain Eugene Galekovic admits the champions must find fresh impetus in attack if they’re to resurrect their fading Finals Series hopes.

The Reds failed to score for the fifth time in seven matches in Friday night’s flat 2-0 defeat to Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.

Despite entering the match on a high after last week’s last-gasp win over Melbourne City, Adelaide could only test Sydney ‘keeper Danny Vukovic with a single shot on target.

“It wasn’t good enough. We defended in our own half for the majority of the game,” Galekovic told Fox Sports.

“We couldn’t play out, they pressed well. I don’t think Vuka had to make a save so we didn’t create any chances.

“We have to try to be positive, try to keep playing football, try to break through lines and … try to create chances.

“If we’re not creating chances we’re not going to win games.”

Adelaide’s 10th defeat of the season leaves the reigning double-winners eight points adrift of the top six.

Galekovic promised his side would continue to chase a Finals Series place, even with their AFC Champions League campaign to kick-off in just over a month.

“We won’t give up. It’s tough but we won’t give up,” the veteran said.
