Adelaide foxing for Leicester City friendly

Hyundai A-League champions Adelaide United could face English Premier League winners Leicester City in a historic friendly following an invitation from the South Australian government.

The State’s Minister for Sport Leon Bignell has confirmed he’s made initial enquiries about bringing the newly crowned EPL champions to Adelaide following a week in which both clubs achieved fairytale domestic success.

Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester completed their incredible title charge on Monday after Tottenham failed to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

That came less than 48 hours after the Reds secured their maiden A-League championship with a 3-1 win over the Wanderers in Sunday’s Grand Final in front of over 50,000 fans at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide United celebrate their Hyundai A-League Championship.

“There has been two great stories in soccer this week. One is Adelaide United the other is Leicester City,” Bignell told the Adelaide Advertiser .

“We could call it the Fairytale Cup!

“We sent our congratulations to the club for winning the English Premier League title and we have asked if they would play a historic showcase game at Adelaide Oval.

“This has been a brilliant week for the sport.”

Leicester have already committed to playing the International Champions Cup, with matches against Celtic, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in July and August.
