Marco Kurz admits Adelaide United only have themselves to blame for slipping to a 2-1 home defeat against a “very defensive” Brisbane Roar on Saturday.
Roar veterans Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Massimo Maccarone both punished errors in a first-half otherwise dominated by Adelaide.
George Blackwood set the platform for a tense finale by cutting the deficit with just over 20 minutes remaining, but the Reds were unable to fully capitalise on Matt McKay’s earlier red card.
“We’re not happy with the result but we must respect it,” Kurz said at his post-match press conference.
“I think today is the first time we played against a very defensive team.
“When you play against defensive teams … it’s very important to have no mistakes, because they wait for one or two situations.
“The result was that we made two big mistakes in the build-up and they had the experience and the quality to score two goals.”
As he prepares to lose Blackwood, Paul Izzo and Ben Garuccio to Australia U23 duty, Kurz confirmed the club is on the hunt for reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
“We need quality and if we have the chance to get a new player then we’ll bring him to Adelaide,” he said.
“But it’s not so easy in January to make good transfers.”
