Ersan Gulum says Adelaide United must learn from their Westfield FFA Cup Final defeat and channel the disappointment into Sunday’s clash with Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Reds lost 2-1 to Sydney FC in Tuesday’s decider as Bobo’s extra-time header denied them a second Westfield FFA Cup title.
Gulum, who provided the pass for Nikola Mileusnic’s second half equaliser, believes his teammates will take plenty from the experience.
“We are a young group of boys still,” the defender said.
“There’s still a lot to learn, [Sydney] are a more experienced team – the majority of their players have played overseas.
“Ours are still growing up, there’s some first time players this year that are getting more game time than usual and they are doing a fantastic job.
“We are disappointed but I think this will make us stronger as a group and will lead us in a better direction.”
Adelaide can get back to winning ways when Josep Gombau’s Wanderers make the trip to Coopers Stadium this weekend.
Gulum insists the players have already shifted their attention to making it two from two in the Hyundai A-League.
“The game, the tournament is over, the FFA Cup is done and now we concentrate on the A-League,” said the 30-year-old, who is currently playing with protection after suffering a punctured lung earlier this season.
“We are going to concentrate on the Western Sydney game on the weekend.”
