Adelaide United have confirmed they turned down a request from Sturm Graz for James Jeggo to trial with the Austrian Bundesliga club.
Jeggo, 23, impressed at Coopers Stadium last season after joining the Reds from Melbourne Victory, helping the team to win the inaugural FFA Cup and reach the A-League semi-finals.
The energetic midfielder has another season to run on his contract.
“We’ve had an expression of interest from Sturm Graz for him just to go on trial,” Adelaide chief executive Michael Petrillo was quoted as telling the Adelaide Advertiser.
“We have said no and we haven’t heard anything back from the club since last week.”
Another exciting Reds talent, Young Socceroo Awer Mabil, went on trial to Ajax in January.
However, prior to signing off on the visit, head coach Josep Gombau insisted potential buyers must be able to demonstrate the seriousness of their interest, with the player’s welfare and long-term development a key concern.
It remains to be seen if Sturm Graz’s initial approach evolves into a formal bid for the Vienna-born midfielder, who, should he make the move to his native Austria, could go up against Austria Wien’s Socceroos midfielder James Holland.
