WATCH: Adama Coulibaly receives a straight red card on Auckland FC debut

Auckland FC midfielder/defender Adama Coulibaly is set to serve a one-match suspension after a red card received in his Isuzu UTE A-League debut against Perth Glory in Round 13.

Coulibaly received a straight red card in the 93rd minute of his side’s shock 1-0 loss to Perth at HBF Park for a foul on Andriano Lebib on the edge of Glory’s attacking penalty area.

Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) convened on Monday to consider the incident, and concluded Coulibaly had committed the offence of “denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game”.

The MRP – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Rhali Dobson – dealt Coulibaly a one-game suspension – the minimum sanction for the offence.

The 20-year-old New Zealand youth international will miss Auckland’s Round 14 clash with Melbourne City at Go Media Stadium and will be eligible for selection once again when the Black Knights face Adelaide United on Wednesday, January 22.
