A-Leagues fixture update: New Melbourne Derby date

There is a new date for the Melbourne Derby, with Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory to meet in the Isuzu UTE A-League on Saturday, March 19.

After weeks of discussions to have Victory’s AFC Champions League play-off against Vissel Kobe moved to a new date and location were unsuccessful, this Saturday’s showdown at AAMI Park was postponed.

The Asian Football Confederation ruled that Victory must play their play-off against Andres Iniesta’s Vissel on March 15 as originally planned, notifying Football Australia that the request to move the game had been unsuccessful.

It means the A-League Men Derby against defending champions and second-placed City will be staged a week later than planned in Melbourne.

Victory are fifth in the standings, eight points behind City and 11 points adrift of leaders Western United.

Meanwhile, Sydney FC and high-flying Western will also go head-to-head in the ALM on March 19.

Sydney – who qualified for the Champions League group stage on Tuesday – and Western were initially scheduled to clash on Friday, but that game was also postponed and ultimately pushed back.

The scheduled match between Sydney and Victory on March 19 at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium was postponed. An update on that fixture is set to be made in due course.
