A-Leagues fixture update: New location for Wanderers-Nix clash

There has been a late change to Tuesday’s Western Sydney Wanderers-Wellington Phoenix matchup, with the Liberty A-League fixture relocated to Wanderers Park due to the ongoing flood crisis in New South Wales.

Tonight’s clash was originally set to take place at CommBank Stadium, however, the pitch has been unable to drain of excess water after rising flood waters around the venue resulted in further flooding of the drainage system.

Initially a behind-closed-doors game, fans will now be allowed to attend at Wanderers Park, with the APL determined to honour its commitment to get the Phoenix home to New Zealand by the date promised.

“The decision to relocate the match was made with the aim of ensuring the best schedule possible for both teams, especially with Wellington Phoenix due to return home to New Zealand following the conclusion of round 14,” Tuesday’s statement read.

“Having spent nearly five months on the road for the 2021-2022 season, it is a high priority of the A-Leagues to ensure that further disruption to their travel schedule is kept to a minimum, as the Phoenix are eager to return to their families after an unprecedented debut in the Liberty A-League.”

However, the Western Sydney-Wellington contest will not be broadcast on Paramount+ at 6.35pm AEDT due to current flooding and the quick turnaround to deliver a live stream – though highlights will be available post-match.
