Former Melbourne City star signs for Italian giant

New Zealand international Katie Bowen has signed for Italian Serie A giants Internazionale.

Bowen joins the club on a one-year deal until June 30 2024, with an option to extend for another year. test

“I’m super excited, it’s a huge, big challenge for me and my career. I’m ready to take on European football,” she said in an exclusive interview on Inter’s social channels.

“It’s massive for both my family and I. I have always wanted to play in Europe and after speaking to the coaching staff, I knew this was the right fit for me.”

The 29-year-old defender spent one season at Melbourne City, making 18 appearances and tallying one assist in the 2022-23 campaign for Dario Vidosic’s side.

Her exploits earned a call-up to the Football Ferns’ 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad, where she played every minute of their three group stage contests.

It was the fourth time she’s been in a New Zealand World Cup squad.

Bowen had previously spent time in the USA for the likes of North Carolina Courage, Kansas City Current, FC Kansas City and Utah Royals.

Inter finished fifth in Serie A Femminile and Bowen will be in line to make her debut in their their season opener against Sampdoria on September 18.

She’s the fourth defender to depart City this off-season, joining Emma Checker (Melbourne Victory)Chelsea Blissett (Brisbane Roar) and Tori Tumeth (Sydney FC).
