Western’s inaugural signing extends contract in ‘story that will inspire the next generation’

Western United defender and foundation player Alana Cerne has re-signed in a boost for the club ahead of the Liberty A-League Finals Series.

Cerne, who was Western’s inaugural recruit in 2022-23, has signed on for the 2024-25 season as last season’s Grand Finalists prepare for Saturday’s Elimination Final against Newcastle Jets in Tarneit.

The 21-year-old has impressed again in her second campaign at A-Leagues level, featuring in all 22 regular-season matches to establish herself as a “centrepiece of the club’s women’s program”.

“Being given the opportunity again to re-sign for this club – it’s an honour to be here,” said Cerne, who progressed through Western’s partner club and NPLW VIC side Calder United.

“I was lucky enough to be given the first contract for Western and start building with the club. Hopefully next season it’ll be more of an opportunity for me to be a leader.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be at this club. I can’t wait to continue playing in front of our fans in Tarneit, starting this Saturday with our home final.”
