The first ever Liberty A-League Trophy Tour has kicked off with two legendary ambassadors

The Liberty A-League championship trophy is touring seven grassroots clubs alongside Teresa Polias and Grace Gill, who have been appointed Grand Final Ambassadors.

The Liberty A-League Grand Final is almost upon us.

And to help spread the excitement, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) has appointed its first ever Grand Final Ambassadors.

For the next month, former A-League Women’s superstars Teresa Polias and Grace Gill will help promote the Liberty A-League Grand Final, particularly within the grassroots football community.

As part of their ambassadorship, Polias and Gill, who have each won two A-League Women’s championships for Sydney FC and Canberra United respectively, will help APL embark upon its inaugural A-League Women’s Trophy Tour.

The tour, which kicked off on Wednesday night at Revesby Workers in the Bankstown Football Association, will see seven different clubs visited by one of the ambassadors and the Championship trophy, allowing junior participants to receive pearls of wisdom from stars of the game as well as the opportunity to get a happy snap with a trophy that they may one day get to hold aloft themselves.

Polias said it was an honour to selected as a Grand Final Ambassador.

“When I started playing we didn’t have girls-only teams, I had to play with the boys,” Polias said.

“To have been at Revesby, and particularly see so many girls and women take up the sport so recently and be absolutely loving it, is really heartening.

“And to be hyping up what is going to be a great finals series and then the Grand Final, it’s a privilege. Grassroots is what it’s all about. This is where it all begins.”

Revesby Workers Ladies Vice President Cherie Milic said the teams – of all ages – got a real kick out of having the opportunity to meet with and learn from Polias.

“We have a lot of new girls coming in, and we’re growing the club continuously,” Milic said.

“Having the A-League Women’s trophy here, and having someone like Teresa come into a little club like ours, be a part of it, and give back, means a lot.”
