Roar lure talented Aussie back to the Ninja A-League: ‘I’m buzzing’

Brisbane Roar’s squad for the Ninja A-League 2025-26 season is continuing to take shape after signing Ava Piazza.

Piazza is back in Australia after joining from Armenian Premier League side Pyunik FC.

The former Newcastle Jets and Canberra United defender also spent a stint at Portuguese outfit Clube de Albergaria following her A-Leagues departure at the end of 2023-24.

“I’m incredibly excited to be signing with Brisbane Roar,” said Piazza, who has been part of CommBank Young Matildas training camps previously.

“I chose Roar because of the club’s culture, the professionalism, and the opportunity to grow as a player in a really competitive environment.

“This season, I’m looking forward to contributing as much as I can to the team’s success, pushing myself to new levels, and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way.

“After a few months in Europe, I’m buzzing to be back in Australia and joining Brisbane Roar. Can’t wait to get started!”

Piazza joins CommBank Matildas goalkeeper Chloe LincolnAmali Kinsella and Daisy Brown as Roar’s new faces heading into the upcoming campaign.

“Extremely pleased to welcome Ava to the program,” said head coach Alex Smith.

“She is an aggressive player always on the front foot who now has European experience to bring back to the A-League Women’s.

“Ava is someone who understands the commitment it takes to be a professional footballer.”
