A-League transfer: City, Reds in player swap

Melbourne City have announced the signing of utility Osama Malik from Adelaide United, with midfielder Stefan Mauk departing the club to join the Reds.

In a further boost to City, former Mariners winger Nick Fitzgerald has also joined the club until the end of the 2015/16 season.

Malik has signed for the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign and through to the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.

Head Coach John van’t Schip said the signings represent the strengthening of the first team squad.

“Our focus during this transfer period has been to further support our existing squad members and provide additional depth in key positions,” van’t Schip said.

“We believe Osama and Nick add valuable experience, complement the squad and will be welcome additions.

“Meanwhile, Stefan has been a valuable contributor to the club and will pursue another opportunity, for which we wish him all the best.”

Mauk, 20, made 34 A-League appearances for Melbourne City, scoring four goals. The 20-year-old will link up with the Reds next week and will remain with his new club until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
