Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Oliver Sail earns Save of Matchweek 22 honours for a resolute block from a close-range Bruce Kamau shot in his side’s 2-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers on Wednesday night.
It was the first of two saves Sail produced to deny Kamau in the early stages of the second half. With his side holding a 2-1 lead, Sail ensured Kamau was unable to wrestle the home side a share of the points with the two impressive stops.
Sail’s initial block came after Keanu Baccus fed the Wanderers forward into the six-yard box with a neat back-heeled pass. Kamau shaped to shoot underneath the outrushing ‘keeper but Sail got a sprawling leg to the ball to send it floating away from goal.
Sail’s resolute defence of the Phoenix goal in the face of Western Sydney’s pressure early in the first half ensured the scoreline stayed at 2-1 until the final whistle, as the away side clinched their second win in as many games in Matchweek 22.
