A-League Save of Matchweek 20 – Matt Acton

Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Matt Acton has earned Save of Matchweek 20 honours for a smart block to prevent Perth Glory forward Bruno Fornaroli from burying his strike into the back of the net on Sunday, May 9.

Fornaroli did well to open up space to dispatch the strike off the right-hand side of the 18-yard box, dribbling toward goal and taking a touch to narrow the angle, but draw Victory defender Dylan Ryan into opening the space between his legs for the Uruguayan to aim through.

The shot had power and pace, and Acton saw it late as it pierced Ryan’s guard and fizzed toward the target.

FOX Sports commentator Mark Bosnich applauded the save which was to come, as Acton got down quickly to his right to push the ball out for a corner. Bosnich said the “absolutely phenomenal” save was difficult for the Victory stopper who had very little sight of the ball before it arrived in his vicinity.
