Matthew Ridenton will miss the Newcastle Jets’ Round 15 clash with Melbourne City while on trial with an English Championship club.
The Newcastle Jets granted New Zealand international Ridenton a week’s leave of absence to pursue the opportunity with an unnamed club playing in England’s second tier.
The 23-year-old is expected to return to training in the Hunter Valley following the Jets’ trip to play City at AAMI Park on Saturday, 18 January, kick-off at 7.30pm AEDT.
Ridenton has featured nine times for Newcastle in the 2019/20 campaign, only starting in five of those matches, after making 14 starts from 21 appearances in his first season in New South Wales in 2018/29.
The former Wellington Phoenix player has racked up 102 Hyundai A-League appearances through five years in the Kiwi capital and two seasons with the Jets.
