Valere Germain joins Asian club to team up with another former A-Leagues star

Valere Germain’s new home has been confirmed, with the former Macarthur Bulls captain signing for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the J1 League.

Germain makes the move to Sanfrecce in Japan’s top flight after leaving Isuzu UTE A-League outfit Macarthur as their all-time leading goalscorer a fortnight ago.

The 34-year-old forward links up with another former A-Leagues star in Hiroshima – ex-Melbourne City midfielder Tolgay Arslan.

Arslan took the Isuzu UTE A-League by storm in his one and only season with City in 2023-24, scoring 19 goals and supplying seven assists across 34 appearances as he claimed the club’s inaugural Scott Jamieson Medal and Players’ Player of the Year award.

“I am excited to have signed with Sanfrecce Hiroshima and can’t wait to join the team,” Germain said. “I would like to thank the head coach Michael Skibbe, coach Sehat Omar and everyone at the club for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play for this great club.

“I still have many goals I want to achieve in my career, but I will give 100% for this great, successful club, with a fantastic coaching staff, a team with a strong determination to keep winning games and lifting trophies, and for the passionate fans and supporters who always support me.

“After speaking with the coaches, I was convinced that Sanfrecce is the place I wanted to be.
I will give my all to make an impact here and bring joy to the club, its fans and supporters.
I look forward to meeting my new teammates and everyone here as soon as possible.”

Sanfrecce have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season through seven rounds, earning seven points.

They are also through to the AFC Champions League Two quarter-finals, having gone head-to-head with Sydney FC in the group stage.
