That figure eclipses the 3.17 goals-per-game averaged during the 2015-16 season, which saw 444 goals scored across 140 fixtures.

If you compare that figure to the major leagues across Europe, the A-League Men stands at the top, just ahead of England’s Premier League, widely considered the best league on the planet.

But it’s not only the goals per game that is on the rise in the Isuzu UTE A-League this term – it’s also the drama.

There have been 48 stoppage-time goals scored across the league so far this term – exactly as many as each of the last two seasons and the joint-most of any season in the competition’s history. And that’s with 10 full rounds still to play!

In Round 16, there were two six-goal thrillers. Adelaide United and Perth Glory played out a dramatic 3-3 draw, while 10-man Western Sydney Wanderers rallied to a 3-3 draw at home to Newcastle Jets.

It took the season tally of six-goal matches to 19, five more than any other campaign in the Isuzu UTE A-League’s history.

There have also been eight seven-goal goals in 2023-24, only once before have there been more in a single campaign (9 in 2018-19).
