‘I love being here’ – Sydney FC star pens new two-year deal to remain in Sky Blue

Sydney FC midfielder Joe Lolley has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Arriving in Australia after helping Nottingham Forest secure promotion back to the Premier League, the 31-year-old has proven to be one of the Isuzu UTE A-League’s best players since joining the club in 2022.

Lolley captured his first piece of silverware in Sky Blue at the beginning of the season, putting on a brilliant second-half display to help Sydney FC defeat Brisbane Roar 3-1 to clinch the Australia Cup whilst he was also awarded the Mark Viduka Medal.

“It feels like we are building something very special under Uffy (Ufuk Talay) at Sydney FC and I can’t wait to be a part of it for the foreseeable future,” said Lolley.

“It is an exciting club to be involved with, our football is dynamic, attacking and lots of fun to play in, plus we’ve a great camaraderie amongst the boys.

“I love being here and living in this wonderful city, so I’m delighted to be signing for two more years.”

Lolley’s creative output has been key to Sydney FC’s improvement under Ufuk Talay so far this season with the Englishman contributing seven goals and five assists from 12 matches.

According to Opta data, the former Premier League midfielder has also created more ‘Big Chances’ (9) than any other player in the league and second only to Brisbane’s Jay O’Shea when it comes to overall chances created (44).

Head Coach Ufuk Talay praised the contribution Lolley has made and believes he will go onto become a club legend.

“Joe is one of our leaders and his form this season has been first class,” he said.

“He has embraced what we are about as a team and as a club and I know our Members will be delighted to know they can see him perform during the prime years of his career.

“Joe has the potential to win a lot more trophies for this club and if he does that, then he will be up there with the greats of Sydney FC.”

Currently ranked in first place on the Alex Tobin Medal Leaderboard, Lolley will be back in action for Sydney FC on January 19 when they face Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium.
