Crowned the Mariners Medallist this season, the 23-year-old sensation has enjoyed a breakout campaign with defending champions Mariners, who are eyeing an historic treble having already wrapped up the Premiership and claimed the AFC Cup in Oman.

Balard had waited 74 games for his ever A-Leagues goal but he scored two in the space of three games in April, while he has bagged three in 26 appearances this term.

He is the seventh nominee for the Young Footballer of the Year award this season – joining Sydney FC’s Jordan Courtney-Perkins (March), Western Sydney Wanderers forward Nicolas Milanovic (February), Newcastle Jets defender Mark Natta (January), Central Coast Mariners full-back Jacob Farrell (December), Wellington Phoenix keeper Alex Paulsen (November), and Adelaide United’s Nestory Irankunda (October) in contention for the annual award.
