Match Review Panel delivers verdict from Ninja A-League and other suspensions

Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) has confirmed a one-game suspension for Newcastle Jets midfielder Libby Copus-Brown after she was sent off in Round 17 of the Ninja A-League.

Copus-Brown was shown a red red card in the 77th minute of Newcastle’s drought-ending 2-1 win over Perth Glory on Saturday after “denying the opposing team an obvious goalscoring opportunity”.

As a result, the 27-year-old will serve a one-match ban – meaning she will sit out the upcoming showdown with two-time reigning champions Sydney FC on Saturday before returning against Brisbane Roar on March 16.

Meanwhile in the Isuzu UTE A-League, Central Coast Mariners midfielder Alfie McCalmont and Perth Glory full-back Josh Risdon will serve mandatory one-game suspensions after accumulating five yellow cards.

McCalmont was shown a yellow card in Friday night’s 3-1 loss to Western United at Industree Group Stadium and will be ineligible for the trip to Melbourne Victory on Saturday.

Risdon was yellow-carded in Perth’s 4-1 rout at the hands of Western Sydney Wanderers last week and will miss Glory’s clash with Brisbane Roar on March 15.
