Sydney FC young gun Calem Nieuwenhof’s long distance rocket on his A-League debut has edged out a number of eye-catching strikes to be awarded A-League Goal of Matchweek 2.
The 19-year-old’s stunning attempt came on a day where four goals of the highest order were scored across two seperate A-League fixtures.
Nieuwenhof’s Sky Blue teammate Luke Brattan, Melbourne Victory’s Callum McManaman and Brisbane Roar striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls may all feel slightly aggrieved their respective wonder-goals didn’t receive the nod for the best strike of Matchweek 3.
But the confidence, technique and ambition showed by Sydney FC’s teenage starlet in his thunderous hit against Wellington Phoenix proved impossible to ignore for the accolade.

Nieuwenhof scored the first goal of Sydney FC’s 2020/21 A-League campaign just before the half-hour mark of their clash with Wellington Phoenix on Saturday afternoon.
Poised with the ball well outside the box, Nieuwenhof disregarded the distance to goal and the bodies in his way to dispatch a strike which travelled perfectly straight and continually upwards until it lashed into the back of the net.
