FOX Sports analyst Andy Harper has adjudged Melbourne City midfielder Connor Metcalfe’s finish to a well-worked team move as the Goal of Matchweek 18.
The league-leaders faced off with Macarthur FC on Saturday, April 24, and Metcalfe put his side ahead with a first-time finish off an attack involving four City players.
Harper was particularly impressed with the almost telepathic connection shown between City defender Scott Jamieson and his forward teammate Jamie Maclaren, who pierced Macarthur’s defensive line to latch onto a perfectly weighted lofted pass.
From there, Maclaren back-heeled the ball to Noone, who delivered the ball on a platter for Metcalfe to finish.
“There were plenty from which to choose, but my personal favourite was Connor Metcalfe for Melbourne City against Macarthur,” Harper said.
“I love the finish from Connor Metcalfe, I loved his game in general. But what really caught my eye was the interchange between Scott Jamieson and Jamie Maclaren.
“Jamieson gets the ball and looks up in front, Maclaren looks at Scotty Jamieson, they both know what’s on – it was one of those beautifully instinctive moments that players work on at the top level.
“The ball from Jamieson was great, the run from Maclaren was outstanding, then the back-heel, and the cross from Noone and the finish from Metcalfe capped off for me the Goal of the Week, I thought it was fantastic.”
