A-League Goal of Matchweek 13: Tomer Hemed, chosen by Shane Smeltz

Former Wellington Phoenix striker Shane Smeltz gave his old side some love in Matchweek 13, handing Goal of the Week honours to Tomer Hemed after his good finish to an exceptional team move.

The award goes to Hemed, but Smeltz gave credit to all four players involved in the move as Wellington took the lead against Melbourne Victory in a 4-1 win.

Reno Piscopo sparked the chance with a delightful touch and invading pass to unleash David Ball down the opposite flank. Ball dribbled to the box before playing a pass to Ulises Dávila, who took one touch before sliding the assist to Hemed to finish.

“An absolutely brilliant team goal,” Smeltz said.

“It was one end to the other extremely quickly. Piscopo’s first touch and then awareness to bring in other players was brilliant.

“The speed that they travelled up the pitch, and the general awareness from each player knowing where a teammate was.

“Then to round it off by Hemed’s calm finish was an absolute brilliant piece of play, and a real ease on the eye to watch.”
